Project Scope 

CTS was engaged to undertake the renewal of a pedestrian crossing on the Metropolitan Line between Amersham and the Network Rail Boundary during Week 27. The works comprised removal of the existing crossing and installation of a new compliant and DDA-accessible crossing system, including new hardwood sleepers, a 1.8 m wide Rosehill pedestrian cross-track walkway with anti-trespass panels, precast stairs with cast iron nosings, reinforced concrete slabs with concrete edgings, tactiles with concrete edgings, a compacted Type 1 pathway, plastic ‘timber’ fencing, and a DDA-compliant handrail.

Delivery

The works were delivered by CTS’ directly employed workforce within a single 52-hour possession. The remote location required careful logistical planning, with materials and plant transported via engineering trains and RRV plant to ensure efficient site access.

CTS managed all aspects of delivery, including:

• Detailed possession planning and sequencing to maximise productivity within the access window.
• Off-site precasting of staircase units to reduce installation time and improve quality control.
• Coordination with LU stakeholders to ensure compliance with operational and safety requirements.
• Installation of crossing, civils, and access components in accordance with approved specifications.
• Implementation of quality assurance processes, including ITP checks, hold points, and witness points at critical stages.

Outcome

The project was completed safely, on programme, and to the required quality standards. The scheme demonstrates CTS’ ability to deliver integrated trackside civil works within constrained possessions, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
